It was fun and interactive, yet random and the novelty could soon wear off. The spread of the handles made it so that people really had to stretch to get to the handles, and the element of discovery willed people on to continue once they had pulled on one. The main problem was getting people to make the initial interaction.
Johnathan Parsons suggested that I use the structures of Semiotics that are already in place. The easy way out would be to use signage. The door handles potentially could be enough by themselves if they were presented in a less pictorial way, in a way that would be more familiar and encourage people to interact. The sign does not have to be a Linguistic sign, i need to think about the tools we use in everyday.
